The final decision as to who gets FutureGen is quickly approaching.

Texas’ “Best and Final Offer” was submitted Wednesday to the FutureGen Alliance

“Today we recognize the hard work and dedication of the Odessa FutureGen team,” State Sen. Kel Seliger, who represents Odessa, said.

“They have submitted an excellent proposal, and we’re confident the Odessa site bid will showcase Texas’ energy expertise, particularly in the long-term storage and transportation of carbon dioxide and the use of hydrogen by the petrochemical industry,” he said.

Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams, the chair of FutureGen Texas, also threw his support behind the offers.

“When FutureGen is built in Texas, we will step to the plate and help defray the costs of this historic experiment,” he said.

The Odessa site is among four finalists in the national competition to host FutureGen. The other finalists are in Jewett, Texas, and Tuscola and Mattoon in Illinois.

The Alliance is expected to announce the winning site in mid-November.
