The long-awaited announcement on the final site for FutureGen has been delayed.

The Department of Energy and the FutureGen Alliance had planned to announce in early September the site for the $1 billion federally funded, near-zero-emissions, next-generation, coal-fired power plant. Odessa is one of four finalists for the project.

Now the announcement date has been pushed back to mid-October.

“The (Environmental Impact Studies) approvals for all four sites take time, and we trust the process will be completed reasonably soon, and the Texas sites should fare well,” Scott Tinker, director of FutureGen Texas, said.

Odessa and Jewett are possible sites in Texas. Mattoon and Tuscola are possible sites in Illinois.
