Reeves County will host a public meeting about a proposed truck relief route Thursday.

The public meeting is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Odessa College’s Pecos Center, located at 1000 S. Eddy Street in Pecos.

The proposed Reeves County Truck Reliever Route will allow for an alternate route for intercity traffic to bypass the Pecos central business district.

“Sustained energy exploration within the Permian and Delaware Basins has caused a dramatic traffic increase within the Town of Pecos City which is disrupting the local transportation system,” Reeves County Judge Leo Hung said in a press release. “Public Involvement is an important step in the progress of this project, so we invite all residents of Reeves County and any others who are interested in this project to join us and provide feedback to help the project team identify the locally preferred route for this project which will allow truck traffic to move more efficiently and improve quality of life for residents of the region.”

The route would include a proposed loop bisector that aligns with Farm-to-Market Road 2119 on the north side of Pecos to State Highway 17 on the south side of town, the release detailed.

The project is expected to consist of various roadway types ranging from a three-lane roadway to a four-lane divided roadway, the release stated. It’s expected to be designed and constructed in phases based on budget and need.
