The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin will acknowledge outstanding leadership and contributions made by community members Saturday. The Chamber invites the public to join them in celebrating recipients and this year’s theme, “Moving Ahead for a Better Tomorrow.”

“The Ebony Bar Awards is a way that we as a Black Chamber can give back to the community in which we work, and just say thank you to people that have done things for us and supported us,” BCCPB President Odel Crawford said.

The awards ceremony also serves as a key fundraiser for the nonprofit organization, which relies on membership dues and corporate sponsorships to fund their programming. Crawford said the line up for Saturday evening will be packed.

The Chamber will feature Anthony Williams as a guest speaker for the event. Williams was sworn in as Abilene’s first African-American mayor in 2017, and Crawford said the Chamber is proud to host him to highlight representation in government.

Tiki Davis, a BCCPB member and the owner of TDC Frac Solutions and Equipment in Odessa, has been nominated as BCCPB’s 2018 business person of the year. Crawford said Davis brings a lot to the table. Davis is active in real estate, oilfield enterprises and other ventures in the area.

Along with awarding Lillie Davis BCCPB’s Adela Urange Humanitarian Award and recognizing 2017 scholarship recipients, the organization will be adding a new aspect to their Ebony Bar Awards that they feel has been missing.

“This year we’re doing something a little bit different in that we’re also recognizing those who are our senior citizens within the community that are at least 90 years of age or older,” Crawford said. “Some of these people have never been recognized, but have been giving to the community and have been a stabilizing force within the community.”

Crawford said that the senior citizens nominated are all women that have remained active and committed to bettering society.
