Odessa Arts will honor Ronald Bennett with the Friend of the Arts award at the second annual Black & White Ball at 6:30 p.m. April 13 at the MCM Elegante Hotel.

“Mr. Bennett can truly be considered a founding father of the cultural community we have in Odessa today,” Odessa Arts Executive Director Randy Ham said in a news release. “He was an integral factor in the foundation of the Permian Playhouse, the Midland-Odessa Symphony and this organization. Both he and his wife, Dortha Bennett, have been staples of countless productions and events in Odessa. We could think of no one more deserving of this honor.”

In addition to Bennett, Odessa Arts will also present the Mark Tenniswood Volunteer of the Year awards to honor those who have given their time and talents to the various cultural organizations Odessa Arts represents.

“We decided to take the Black & White Ball back to the Night Circus this year, because the black and white elements of our event ties nicely into Erin Morgenstern’s novel, and we’ve had many community members ask us to revisit the novel which was our One Book Odessa read in 2014. It’s also a special tribute to Mark Tenniswood, who produced one of the most spectacular staged readings of the novel I have ever seen,” Ham said. “It’s a fitting way to honor Mark, and celebrate the accomplishments of our volunteers.”

Tickets for the event are on sale at tinyurl.com/y2oyx2rp.
