Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midland, along with more than 270 Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliates nationwide, has unveiled a new logo and brand repositioning with the goal of recruiting more diverse volunteers.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midland also revealed its new name — Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Permian Basin — to reflect its expanded service in Ector and Midland counties.

Months of research showed the former brand was not effectively connecting with younger prospective mentors or conveying the urgent mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters. The organization is changing from messages about the importance of mentoring to messages of the urgent need for adults in the community to step up, defend and ignite the potential of every child, a news release said.

The logo is a symbol of the real-life match that creates a whole greater than the sum of its parts and the ongoing relationships between parents/guardians and the Bigs and the Littles, the release said. The lines in the logo make a little “b” and the green lines connect to create something bigger, a capital “B.”

For 43 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has mentored children in Midland who needed and wanted additional guidance and friendship.

Earlier this year, the organization announced that its expansion into Ector County, the release said.

The majority of the children served has experienced divorce or separation in their homes, or the loss of a parent through death or incarceration, and have a need for companionship that their single parent or caretaker cannot meet alone, the release said.
