The Ector County Independent School District Board of Trustees has narrowed the list of superintendent candidates from seven to four after meetings Friday and Saturday.

Board President Doyle Woodall said all seven were “amazing people” who wanted to work for ECISD. Applicants were from all over the country, but the remaining ones are from Texas, he said.

The search firm of Hazard, Young, Attea Associates wanted the board to narrow it down to three candidates, Woodall said.

“But we just couldn’t. There was so much quality there,” Woodall added.

The candidates will be brought back for further interviews one at a time starting April 8. Woodall said there will be all-day activities for each of them.

The candidates will be taken on a tour of various ECISD campuses and talk to members of the campuses, Woodall said.

A lone finalist could be selected as soon as the end of that week, but Woodall said he hasn’t seen a final schedule yet.

Jim Nelson was named interim superintendent after Tom Crowe resigned last fall.
