Odessa Police Department responded to two hit and run collisions Monday morning, one including a man seriously injured during a wreck in north Odessa.

OPD spokesperson Cpl. Steve LeSueur said over the phone the hit and run happened after four male suspects were fleeing the scene after burglarizing a building. The burglary happened at 5:45 a.m. Monday at the Smoker’s Outlet located at 5100 Dixie Blvd.

LeSueur said four suspects were reportedly traveling east in a white Chevrolet Impala on 51st Street at a high rate of speed, when the vehicle failed to yield at the intersection of Clover Avenue and collided with a maroon Buick LaCrosse traveling north. The impact caused the Chevrolet Impala to spin around, an OPD news release stated.

Manuel Aguilar Luevano, 72, was operating the LaCrosse and he was transported to Medical Center Hospital with life-threatening injuries, LeSueur said. He was listed as being in critical condition. The suspects reportedly fled the scene after the collision and made no attempt to render aid.

The other collision Monday happened at 2:35 a.m. when a white 2006 Chevrolet van struck a power pole at the intersection of Second Street and Lasseter Avenue. The van was unoccupied when officers arrived on the scene and LeSueur said it’s also being investigated as a hit and run.

Anyone with information in reference to either investigation is encouraged to contact hit and run investigator M. Stewart at 432-335-5759 or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS.
