A 32-year-old El Paso woman died in the hospital Tuesday from injuries she suffered a day prior in a head-on collision west of Penwell that left two others dead, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Two survivors of the wreck remained in the hospital.

The El Paso woman, Laura Janeth Alvarez, died at 1:21 p.m. at Medical Center Hospital, the DPS reported. The Monday accident happened when Alvarez’s Ford pickup had a blowout that caused her to lose control and veer across the center median into oncoming traffic, the DPS reported.

Adan Tercero, a 28-year-old man from Midland and a passenger in the other vehicle, remained listed in critical condition, while 41-year-old Roberto Rodriguez had been upgraded to serious condition. The DPS reported that both were riding in the Dodge pickup truck that Alvarez’s pickup collided with.

Jeramy Dale Tuhlar of Midland, 23, the driver of the Dodge pickup, and his 22-year-old passenger Jonathon Micheal Smith, of Mineral Wells, both died Monday, according to the DPS.

The wreck happened at about 2 p.m. on Interstate 20 near mile marker 99.
