Odessa man dies in two-vehicle collision near Rankin

A 24-year-old Odessa man died as a result of a two-vehicle collision Thursday near Rankin.

The reported fatal collision occurred at 5:33 p.m. Thursday on Farm-to-Market Road 1555 about seven miles north of Rankin, a Texas Department of Public Safety press release stated.

Luis Vaquera, 59, of Big Lake was reportedly driving a 2002 International truck east on Farm-to-Market Road 1555 with his passenger Jaime Deleon-Lopez, 25, of Big Lake.

Cesar Rios, 23, of Odessa was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado west on Farm-to-Market Road 1555 with his passenger Oliver Rodriguez, 24, of Odessa, the release stated. The International truck’s left front tire blew out, Vaquera lost control and entered the westbound lane and collided with the Silverado.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, the release detailed. Rios and Rodriguez weren’t wearing their seatbelts. Rios was transported to Shannon Medical Center Hospital in San Angelo with incapacitating injuries.

Vaquera and Deleon-Lopez were both wearing their seatbelts, the release stated. Vaquera was transported to Shannon Medical Center Hospital in San Angelo with incapacitating injuries, while Deleon-Lopez was transported to Upton County Hospital in Rankin with non-incapacitating injuries.
