The sixth annual Bustin’ for Badges is a little more than a month away.

Yet, the event — which will benefit Odessa Police Department, Midland Police Department, Ector County Sheriff’s Office and Midland County Sheriff’s Office — is going to have one of its two additional fundraising efforts begin today.

Five Chick-fil-A locations in Odessa and Midland will start Cookies for Cops today as part of the proceeds from each chocolate chunk cookie sale going directly to Bustin’ for Badges.

“This is something new that we are doing this year,” OPD spokesperson and Bustin’ for Badges committee member Cpl. Steve LeSueur said about Cookies for Cops. “It starts on Monday.”

The five locations participating in the Cookies for Cops are the Chick-fil-A at 42nd Street, Chick-fil-A on Wall Street in Midland, Chick-fil-A at Andrews Highway in Midland, Chick fil-A on Midland Drive and Chick-fil-A at University Boulevard in Odessa.

Courtney Ashley, the Chick-fil-A marketing director at the 42nd Street location, said local law enforcement and Chick-fil-A have built a strong relationship.

Ashley said the five Chick-fil-A locations don’t have a specific donation amount from each cookie sale, but she reiterated each location will have proceeds going to local law enforcement agencies.

“We wanted to take it a step further to be able to do something extra,” Ashley said. “That’s how we came up with the Cookies for Cops idea that a portion of each cookie would go back to the Bustin’ for Badges foundation in order for them to disperse to the four different agencies.”

Cookies for Cops will continue throughout the week and conclude on Saturday.

On Saturday, Support Mor Badges will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. with OPD at the Chick-fil-A located at 42nd Street and ECSO at the Chick-fil-A located at University Boulevard. MPD and MCSO will be at the Chick-fil-A located at 5120 Andrews Highway in Midland.

Local law enforcement agencies will be interacting with the public and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. The top three prizes are a 2019 Polaris Ranger 500, 6.5 Creedmoor “American Flag Chassis” rifle and 24 Gun Safe.

“We are going to have all of our specialized units there and we are going to be selling raffle tickets,” LeSueur said.

The funds received from Cookies for Cops and Support Mor Badges will go toward Bustin’ for Badges. Bustin’ for Badges is set for April 25 and 26 at Windwalker Farms in Stanton.

Since 2014, Bustin’ for Badges has raised $1.6 million for local law enforcement agencies. Each of the four law enforcement agencies will use the funds to purchase new equipment and technology.
