An 18-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly pointed an AR-15 rifle at another man, evaded police in a vehicle and marijuana was found in his possession.

Keshawn Jones was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, a third-degree felony, unlawful carry of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.

The aggravated assault began at 12:49 a.m. near the intersection of North Loop 338 and University Avenue and ended at the Stripes location of 5200 JBS Parkway.

The 40-year-old complainant, Jeremy Allen, stated he arrived home from work when he saw a white 2015 BMW 320i parked behind his residence in the alley, the Odessa Police Department affidavit detailed.

Allen reportedly saw a person jump the back fence to his residence and enter the BMW. Allen stated he confronted the driver, identified as Jones, and Jones exited the vehicle with a rifle, pointed the firearm at Allen and advised him to get back.

Jones left the scene and Allen followed Jones in his 2018 GMC Sierra, the affidavit stated. The vehicles were traveling north at the 5200 block of Loop 338 when OPD officers activated their emergency lights and sirens in a company issued patrol unit. Officers attempted to pull over the BMW, but Jones reportedly accelerated the vehicle and began actively evading officers traveling west on the 5000 block of 52nd Street, the affidavit stated.

Jones pulled into Stripes and was instructed to exit the BMW, the affidavit detailed. Jones stated he was the only person in the vehicle. A sweep of the vehicle showed a black AR-15 rifle in plain view on the top of the backseat. Officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle and they found a clear baggie containing a green leafy substance, the affidavit stated.

Jones was charged, arrested and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. He has four bonds totaling $137,500 and bailed out on Thursday, jail records show.
