A 31-year-old man was indicted by an Ector County grand jury after he reportedly sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint on New Year’s Eve at a truck stop.

Steven Paul Harris was indicted on a charge of aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony, when the grand jury met on May 28.

The sexual assault reportedly happened at a truck stop in south Odessa.

The woman said Harris, who identified himself to her as ‘Nathaniel’ at a gas station, agreed to take her to her place of employment, an Odessa Police Department affidavit stated. She entered the vehicle, but Harris reportedly took her to a truck stop instead of her work.

The woman stated Harris reportedly held her at gun point, and when they arrived at the truck stop he forced her to undress, the affidavit detailed. Harris reportedly engaged in sexual intercourse against the woman’s consent. Harris then ejaculated on the woman and after the sexual assault he gave her a face mask to clean herself, the affidavit detailed.

The woman went into the truck stop to use the bathroom after the incident and she reported it to the clerk inside the store, the affidavit stated. Harris reportedly fled the scene.

Harris’ bond for the aggravated sexual assault is $300,000 and he was still in jail as of Thursday morning, jail records show.

Harris is also facing charges in two other Texas counties. He was charged Feb. 20 with theft of property of more than $750 and less than $2,500, a class A misdemeanor, and theft of property of more than $100 and less than $750, a class B misdemeanor, in Dawson County. He was also charged April 23 with theft of property more than $100 and less than $750, a class B misdemeanor, and false identification, a class B misdemeanor in Terry County. The four bonds for the charges from Dawson County and Terry County total $3,000, jail records show.

Harris’ attorney is Josh Stephens and he had an arraignment hearing scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
