A 41-year-old woman was arrested Thursday after she reportedly passed out in a vehicle as three juveniles in her supervision were inside an elementary school after hours.

Katherine Guerrero was charged with three counts of abandoning or endangering a child, a state jail felony.

Officers responded to an alarm at 9:37 p.m. May 29 at Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary, an Odessa Police Department affidavit detailed.

Officers reportedly saw a gray Dodge Charger parked in the southeast parking lot of the school. An officer saw Guerrero unconscious in the driver’s side of the vehicle and they knocked on the driver’s window to wake up Guerrero.

Guerrero opened the vehicle’s door and the officer smelled an odor from an alcoholic beverage, the affidavit stated. Guerrero reportedly had blood shot, watery eyes, strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath and slurred speech.

Officers asked Guerrero how much she had to drink and she reportedly responded with “one.”

There was an empty 6.3 ounce bottle of Moscato Wine sitting in the driver’s door compartment, the affidavit stated. Guerrero was asked to step out of the vehicle and she had unsteady balance.

Three juveniles that were reportedly in the care, custody and control of Guerrero each stated they were at the playground for two hours without adult supervision. The juveniles stated they were the ones who set off the alarm when they trespassed inside school property.

During an inventory of the Charger there were two more empty 6.3 ounce bottles of Moscato Wine found, the affidavit stated.

OPD spokesperson Cpl. Steve LeSueur said over the phone on Tuesday afternoon the three juveniles were released to a family member.

Guerrero was arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. She had three bonds totaling $45,000 and posted bail on Thursday, jail records show.
