A former Odessa law enforcement officer was sentenced to 17.5 years after pleading guilty to possession of 500 pounds of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.

Jackie Lynn Thompson, a one-time officer with the Odessa Police Department and former reserve officer with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office, was sentenced Thursday  by District Judge Robert A. Junell. Thompson also was sentenced to five years supervised release. No fines were issued.

Thompson pleaded guilty in April.

Detectives began investigating a methamphetamine distribution group in Midland and discovered a man who was a source of supply to various individuals, according to a plea agreement. Through the investigation, using an undercover officer to make purchases and a wiretap, federal agents confirmed that Thompson was receiving methamphetamine from the supplier on a regular basis.

The man admitted to supplying Thompson on numerous occasions more than 500 grams of methamphetamine on each delivery.

At about 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 24, Texas Department of Public Safety pulled Thompson over after he reportedly rolled through a stop sign at West 42nd Street and Guernsey Road, a probable cause affidavit stated.

A search warrant was executed that same day at Thompson’s residence, where law enforcement officer reportedly found 27 guns, a small amount of meth and steroids.
