A 53-year-old man pled guilty April 5 to murder in an intoxicated 2017 fatal wreck.
Reginald Bernard Silver was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the death of Abraham Chavez, 83.
The fatal wreck happened at 1:19 p.m. Sept. 6, 2017, near the Ector County Coliseum, the OPD release detailed. Police responded to a call about a crash involving three vehicles near the intersection of 42nd Street and Henderson Avenue.
Silver was driving a black 2014 Ford truck eastbound on 42nd Street at a high rate of speed while intoxicated when he struck a blue 2013 Dodge Crew van, a release stated.
The collision caused the van, which was traveling north on Henderson Avenue and attempting to travel west on 42nd Street, to be pushed into oncoming traffic. Chavez was driving the van and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Silver was credited for 90 days of jail time. The charge of failure to stop and render aid resulting in death was dismissed.
Judge Stacy Trotter approved the deal. Adrian Chavez was the defense attorney.
