In what residents consider a calm street, a five-car collision on Tom Green Avenue sent three to the hospital and left bystanders shocked.

Odessa police Cpl. Craig Goodson said the wreck started about 6:15 tonight when the driver of an older model blue Ford pickup ran a stop sign while traveling north on Tom Green Avenue.

The Ford then collided with a blue GMC pickup that spun into a white Chevrolet Silverado on 31st Street.

Goodson said the Ford rolled over a black Kia parked on the side Tom Green Avenue and then hit a parked Hyundai in the driveway of the same house.

“We were kind of shocked,” Belinda Lara, a resident of Tom Green Avenue, said. “This was just completely crazy. There was a fight and a guy running.”

Goodson said the fight involved the two people in the Ford pickup.

“The driver told the passenger to run when they exited the car, and he said no and then a scuffle ensued,” Goodson said. “The driver then ran from the scene and returned 15 to 20 minutes later and turned himself in.”

Lara said these types of wrecks don’t normally happen in her neighborhood.

“For this neighborhood, this is very unusual,” she said. “… Most people obey the signs.”

Goodson said three passengers were taken to Medical Center Hospital with minor injuries.

The corporal said the driver of the pickup was cited with running the stop sign and leaving the scene of an accident.

The identities of those involved in the accident have not been made available yet.
