After record-breaking August rains, Rock the Desert could again be facing fears of a flooding desert.

Erika Lemmon, 14, a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Crane, said she remembers her singing-in-the-rain experience from last year’s concert, while there with her youth group.

“It was really nice, I was listening to one of my favorite bands, then it started sprinkling and then it starting pouring,” Erika said. “By the time we got to the van, we were all soaked.”

Erika said she’s not too worried about the rain this year, but if it does rain she said, “I just hope to hear all of my favorite bands first.”

As of now, Doug Tull, an organizer for the event said he feels the event is pretty safe.

“It hasn’t effected anything as far as setting up yet, because we won’t begin setting up until next week,” Tull said. “And the weather is supposed to be great next weekend.”

If fact, Tull said they’re excited about this week’s rains.

“We’re glad for the rain because it will keep everything looking nice and green and keep the dust down,” he said.

However, just in case those leery gray clouds do choose to show up during the concert, organizers are prepared.

“We’re setting up different tents, so if there’s rain issues, people can go get under these tents,” Tull said. “But are we worried about the rain? No, not at all. Why worry about what we can’t control anyway?”
