The City of Odessa’s sales tax check from the state for the month of July totaled more than $5.9 million, exceeding the city’s year-to-date projection by 61.87%.

A .25-cent economic development sales tax is included in the amount, meaning the city will receive $4,725,128.64, and the Odessa Development Corporation will receive $1,181,282.16.

Odessa collected 0.95% more this month than the same month last year, and they have received $43,013,834.24 year-to-date, nearly $4 million more than they received last year at this time.

Midland pulled in more sales tax revenue than Odessa this month, collecting more than $6.2 million, 8.03% more than they received for the same month last year. Both cities have a 1.25% sales tax rate.

The payments are generated by sales tax revenue from two months prior to collection. In this case, July is based on May sales.

The Ector County Hospital District received a July sales tax check of nearly $4.3 million, 9.13% less than the same month last year. The Ector County Assistance District received its second sales tax check, collected $1,953,111.25.
