One of the bands featured in this year’s Rock the Desert Christian music festival is Emery.

>> After graduation from a South Carolina university, Joel “Chopper” Green, Toby Morrell, Devin Shelton and Matt Carter united to form the rock band Emery and moved to Seattle.

Adding keyboardist Josh Head and drummer Dave Powell, Emery emerged with an intense sound of full-blast rock music that rides between punk and alternative.

The driving rhythms and epic choruses are played by Christian musicians, but can also be heard on the Vans Warped Tour.

>> Rock the Desert ELEV8 2007 is Friday and Saturday at 2000 N. FM 1788.

>> Advance tickets are $20 or $25 at the gate and include all concerts for both days.

>> Tickets can be purchased at Odessa and Midland Chick-fil-A restaurants, Mardel Christian Books, Midland Community Federal Credit Union and the RTD website.
