HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Monahans finishes second at rain-shortened state tournament

The Monahans golf team closed out its season with a second place finish during the final day of the Class 4A state tournament Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Course.

The tournament was cut short to 27 holes due to inclement weather in the area.

The Loboes (312-152—464) were part of a Region I sweep with Argyle (296-146—442) winning the team title and Canyon (312-159—471) finishing third.

Bond Heflin (74-39—113) finished in a tie for 10th overall to lead the Loboes, while Konner Iglehart and Alonso Ruiz both finished with a 115 total.

Matt Madrid (82-39) finished with a 121 and Brandon Swanner (89-45) rounded out the scoring with a 134.

Seminole’s Cason Johnson (71-36—107) finished in third placeindividually while Fort Stockton’s Alex Williams (73-42—115) was tied for 12th.

Jaxon Donaldson of Wimberley (65-36—101) was the individual state champion ahead of Argyle’s Gaven Lane (70-33—103).
