We usually hear about breast cancer awareness in October, but in reality, it is something women need to be aware of year round. Breast cancer will affect 1 in 8 women during their lifetime, and many women will not get a mammogram because they do not have the money or insurance to cover the medical bills.

This is where Pink the Basin comes in. Pink the Basin is a non-profit corporation that provides funds for breast care. According to Pink the Basin, their purpose is “a voluntary, non-profit corporation organized in compliance with the laws of Texas for the purpose of promoting Women’s health through awareness, education, and assistance in the Permian Basin. Their mission is to raise awareness of women’s health issues and foster educational and service initiatives that positively embrace women’s health.”

Pink the Basin knows how important it is for women who find a lump, have a family history, or high risk to have a mammogram, and they want every woman to have the resources to accomplish this. Even if you can’t afford it, Pink the Basin will help with the cost of mammograms AND the cost of care should you have cancer. Please do not let a financial burden keep you from taking care of your health and well being. Call the ORMC Women’s Center today at (432) 582-8480 and discuss your need for financial assistance for a mammogram, biopsy or follow up. With Pink the Basin, they WILL take care of you.

ORMC is giving back to the community with Cups for a Cause 10K/5K and Kids Fun Run with 100% of the proceeds benefitting Pink the Basin! This is an outreach to raise awareness for prevention because breast cancer affects so many people.

ORMC encourages for everyone to bring their entire family to run/walk in honor or in memory of a loved one and to help raise awareness for the entire community. There will be activities and a fun run for the kids, and everyone is required to have tons of fun. You can create teams, dress up, design t-shirts, decorate bras to wear on the outside of your shirts and celebrate Cups for a Cause!

If you would like to volunteer for Cups for a Cause, you can contact Tasa Richardson at ORMC at (432) 582-8399. There are also great sponsorship opportunities!

The 10K/5K run/walk will be Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Crossroads Fellowship, 6901 Texas 191 Frontage in Odessa. For more information you can call (432)582-8677 or visit the website at cupsforacause5k.com.

Please come join us at Cups for a Cause benefitting Pink the Basin and make a real difference in a woman’s life!
