Man charged with assaulting woman

A 31-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly assaulted his unborn child’s mother multiple times during the past two months.

Nigel Jerrell Johnson was charged with continuous violence against the family, a third-degree felony. He was also charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony.

The complainant, identified as Jordan Luna, stated her unborn child’s father, Johnson, had assaulted her Aug. 29 in the 1100 block of W. 33rd Street, an Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit detailed. Luna reported the assault to OPD on Aug. 30.

Luna reportedly had visible injuries to her face, red marks and bleeding to her lip. Luna’s injuries were consistent with her claim of assault.

Luna told police prior to her arrival to OPD an argument turned physical when Johnson followed her out of the home and began punching her in the face with a closed fist surrounding a post she made on social media, the probable cause affidavit stated.

Children witnesses of the assault were reportedly identified and contacted, who confirmed that Luna was assaulted by Johnson the date of the report. The witnesses stated that Johnson struck Luna in the face with a closed fist causing bodily injury.

Police reviewed past contacts with Luna that showed she had filed two previous cases of assault (family violence) by Johnson on Aug. 12 and Aug. 28, the affidavit stated.

Johnson was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Sept. 28, jail records show. He has two bonds totaling $60,000 and was still in custody as of Thursday morning.
