Woman charged with choking and punching boyfriend

A man stated his common law spouse of three years choked and punched him over an argument about unfaithfulness, an Odessa Police Department affidavit detailed.

Britney Nicole Salinas was charged with assault family violence with impeding breathing and circulation, a third-degree felony.

The reported assaulted happened at 9:39 p.m. Monday at the Quail Run Apartments located at 5335 N. Grandview Ave., the affidavit stated.

Officers responded to the disturbance call and they reportedly heard a woman screaming “let me have my keys” repeatedly. Officers made contact with 22-year-old Angel Vela that stated he and his common law spouse, Salinas, gotten into an argument about unfaithfulness.

Vela stated he had attempted to take the keys to his vehicle from the bedroom and Salinas jumped on his back and began to choke him until the point that he couldn’t breathe, the affidavit stated. Salinas also reportedly struck Vela on the head several times.

Vela stated he was able to get Salinas off him and after some more arguing, Salinas jumped back onto his back and choked him again. Officers saw redness on Vela’s neck along with friction burn marks in the same area. Officer also saw several scratches on Vela’s right hand that were fresh and bleeding.

Salinas was arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. She has one bond totaling $25,000 and was still in custody on Wednesday morning, jail records show.
