UTPB opens fields to public

With its agreement with the City of Odessa ended, the University of Texas Permian Basin is now offering its fields for rent.

The university’s soccer and softball fields, along with outdoor volleyball and basketball courts will be available to any team, league, association and community partner interested in providing sports in the city and on campus, a news release said.

The university has received interest from approximately 100 teams so far. Anyone interested can visit the  sports fields’ website and email UTPB’s Sports Complex Director John Gullion to reserve a field.

To celebrate, UTPB is opening the fields Labor Day weekend (Sept. 3-6) for free play to the community.

The university has partnered with SFM (Sports Fields Management) Network to oversee the facility rentals. The partnership will ensure the process for rentals and facility upkeep will run smoothly and timely, the release said. The management of the facilities will expand access and improve organization and scheduling, maximizing full use of the fields. The university will also be offering “open play” where friends and families can gather and enjoy the facilities, not all of which were available in the past, the release said.
