Two motorcyclists hospitalized after 3-vehicle collision

A 28-year-old motorcyclist is in serious condition, while a 22-year-old motorcyclist is in fair condition, a Medical Center Hospital official said Monday afternoon, after they were involved in a three-vehicle collision early Sunday morning.

The Odessa Police Department and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a major collision at 1:53 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of East 42nd Street, an OPD release stated.

Anthony Jenkins, 27, of Odessa was driving west on 42nd Street in a white 2007 Chevrolet pickup, the release stated. Nicholas Candelaria, 22, and Anthony Hernandez, 28, were driving two sport bikes west on 42nd Street at a high rate of speed.

Candelaria reportedly struck the pickup from behind and Hernandez lost control and fell, OPD spokesperson Cpl. Steve LeSueur said over the phone on Monday morning.

Candelaria and Hernandez were transported to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injuries. Hernandez was listed in serious condition, while Candelaria was in fair condition.

There were no reports of any other injuries and the investigation continues.
