Two bridges closed east of Midland

Two bridges east of Midland have been closed due to severe damage from an oversized load, believed to be caused by the same person.

Both the Business Interstate 20 west interchange bridge over I-20 at mile markers 154 and 155 on the west side of Stanton and the bridge carrying County Road 1150 across I-20 east of Midland, according to a Texas Department of Transportation news release.

TxDOT Spokesman Gene Powell Jr. added that the westbound driving lanes at both locations are also closed due to loosened concrete debris.

Powell said the Department of Public Safety caught the person who caused the damage to both bridges Monday, and will try to recoup money for damages, but could not release information on who that person was.

This is the fourth bridge hit in the past four or five days, Powell said, as State Highway 307 had a bridge hit Sunday with minor damage, and the same Stanton interchange had minor damages Thursday or Friday.

The damage to the Stanton bridge is severe, Powell said, and will be closed for several weeks or months, and the Tank Farm bridge will be evaluated later this week.

There are no estimates for the damage to any of the bridge hits yet, Powell added.
