Turkey Uighurs fear sellout to China in exchange for vaccine

FILE – In this Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, file photo, members of the Uighur community living in Turkey, some carrying flags of what ethnic Uighurs call ‘East Turkestan’, pray during a protest in Istanbul, against what they allege is oppression by the Chinese government to Muslim Uighurs in far-western Xinjiang province. Because of shared cultural ties, Turkey has long been a safe haven for the Uighurs, a Turkic group native to China’s far west Xinjiang region. Many in the community are anxious they may be deported back to China amid allegations of an exchange of Uighurs for coronavirus vaccines.
