Sub-freezing weather prompts closures, delays

Odessa College and University of Texas Permian Basin are closed Tuesday.

Ector County ISD and Midland ISD were also closed Tuesday.

Ector County offices announced Monday afternoon that all offices would be closed on Tuesday due to weather.

“After discussion with Sheriff Mike Griffis, my commissioner colleagues, and with advice from our local weather experts, my decision for closing county operations is based on keeping our employees and our community safe. Having a background in road safety policies, I could not in good conscience ask our employees to endanger their lives, or that of their families, on icy roadways. We look forward to continuing to serve our constituents when county operations resume,” Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett stated in Monday’s press release.

Fawcett also stated he plans to continue to monitor the situation on the roadways throughout the coming hours and days and will continue to advise the public on county operations.

The City of Midland issued a news release that due to inclement weather all City of Midland offices will be closed, and services are suspended Tuesday. That includes City Hall, Animal Services, Health Services, MLK Community Center, customer service, Municipal Court, garbage pickup and the landfill.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is also closed Tuesday. All remote curricular activities will continue; check for further communications from your school. Visit www.ttuhsc.edu/emergency for updates.

Due to the subfreezing temperatures expected overnight and the moisture on roads expected to refreeze, all ProCare offices, clinics and non-patient facing departments within the hospital will have a delayed start of 10 a.m. on Tuesday (1/31) morning. All scheduled procedures and surgeries before 10 a.m. will go on as scheduled. As always, the hospital and the Emergency Department will remain open 24/7, a news release said.

MCH Administration and Emergency Management team will continue to monitor the weather through tonight and into the morning hours and we will alert you of any further delays or closures.

Midland Health said in a news release that all Diagnostic Imaging Associates (DIA) locations and the Breast Center will have a delayed opening of 10 a.m.

All Premiere Clinic locations, also known as Midland Health clinics, have a delayed opening until 10 a.m.

West Texas Orthopedics is closed Tuesday.
