September sales tax check up nearly 21%

The City of Odessa’s September sales tax check, which reflects sales made in July, was up 20.76% compared to July 2021.

According to a City of Odessa news release, the city received a check of $5,427,931.66. This amount includes the Economic Development sales tax of one quarter cent. The City of Odessa will receive $4,342,345.33 and the Odessa Development Corporation will receive $1,085,586.33

The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2021-22 is up 29.32% or $10,993,588.69 as compared to the budgeted amount expected at this point in the fiscal year. In addition, the 2021-22 year-to-date amount is above the previous fiscal year-to-date amount by $7,134,670.71 or 17.25%.

The city has budgeted $37,500,000 in net sales tax revenues for this current fiscal year.

According to the Texas Comptroller’s Office, Midland received a check of $5,212,048 which was up 33.10% from last year. The city’s fiscal year balance is $53,227,016, up 25.22% over this point last year.

According to Medical Center Hospital, the hospital district is scheduled to receive$4,647,313 in sales tax this month. That’s an increase of nearly $1.4 million from the same period last year.
