Rig count update

The U.S. rig count reached 816 during the week ending April 19, falling by 15 rigs from the previous week’s peak, according to Enverus Foundations data. The count is down 3%, or 27 rigs, in the last month and up 3% YOY. All numbers discussed are weekly peaks to avoid the sometimes wide variability of daily numbers.

Two major plays reported increases, with the Anadarko Basin rising by five rigs to 73 and Appalachia rising one to 54. The DJ and Williston basins dropped one rig each to 18 and 41. The Gulf Coast slid three rigs to 94, and the Permian dropped two at 346.
