Recognitions, budget update on ECISD agenda

Recognitions, a budget and financial update and graduation plans and announcements are on the agenda for the Ector County Independent School District Board of Trustees meeting set for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the first-floor board room of the administration building, 802 N. Sam Houston Ave.
Recognition of Student Spaceflight Experiments Program mission patch designs, the announcement of Student Crime Stoppers State Awards, recognition of University Interscholastic League state qualifiers and recognition of the Celebrating Champions of Education Committee are scheduled.
Last year, patches created by ECISD students traveled to the international space station with an experiment devised by Falcon Early College High School students.
The March 26 event was aimed at anyone associated with education in the Permian Basin from parents and teachers to principals, administrators, cafeteria workers, custodians and bus drivers.
The idea was for the region to show its appreciation for all they do for students.
Graduations for the district’s five high schools — Odessa, Permian, George H.W. Bush New Tech Odessa, OCTECHS and Falcon Early College High School — are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
The budget report will cover items such as budget expenditure assumptions, projected appraisal values and fund balances, among other things.
At a Superintendent’s Budget Advisory Council meeting last week, Deputy Superintendent Stephanie Howard said appraisal values for ECISD are expected to increase.
However, the district won’t get certified values until July.
Howard said increased values are positive for the district.
