Rain, rain every where

Just under 900 people were without power Sunday morning as a result of Saturday’s rainstorms, which brought nearly 2.5 inches of rain to Midland International Airport.

According to Oncor’s Stormcenter website page, 896 people in the Odessa area were without power as of 10 a.m. Sunday.

Greg Murdock, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Midland airport recorded 2.43 inches of rain between 10:30 a.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday and Odessa-Schlemeyer Field Airport saw .89 inches of rain during the same time period.

Odessa Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Quentin Dobmeier said OFR had a relatively calm night. Firefighter paramedics responded to two vehicles that stalled in running water, one out west on 42nd Street and the other at North Tom Green Avenue and 16th Street. Neither were life-threatening situations, he said.

The fire department also had reports of two downed power lines, but Dobmeier said he couldn’t say for certain they were weather-related.

Between one and 1.5 inches of rain were reported at OFR stations around town, Dobmeier said.

Murdock said the chance of rain will hover around 50% for the next couple of days before dropping to 30%. Temperatures will remain eight to 10 degrees cooler than normal with the high expected to reach the low ’80s on Monday.
