Benefit service

The African American Fellowship of West Texas has scheduled a benefit service for the Rev. Jackie Jeffery of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Crane at 7 p.m. today at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 2212 E. 11th St.

Jeffery is fighting stage 4 prostate cancer. All proceeds will aid in his medical cost and lost income.

Church anniversary

St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 2212 E. 11th St., will celebrate their 82nd Church Anniversary June 8-9.

June 8: 10:30 a.m., Church fellowship gathering with lots of games and good food.

June 9: 3 p.m., Anniversary service. Guest church will be Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Tommie Hale of Midland.

Advocate training

CASA of the Permian Basin Area, Inc., 300 N. Grant Ave., has scheduled new advocate training from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. June 11.

Learn how you can change a child’s life and work with children in foster care to ensure their best interest is kept in court.

Training is held four evenings: Tuesdays and Thursdays for two weeks. All four classes are mandatory.

Fingerprints will be taken and volunteers will do a four hour court observation.

Tree giveaway

The Odessa Neighborhood ShadeMakers Tree Giveaway Program focuses on giving trees for residential neighborhoods. 5-gallon trees will be made available free to residents. The homeowners agree to pick up, plant, and care for their free tree. The objective is to instill pride and ownership, care for the environment, and beautify our neighborhoods. Trees are available to be picked up from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 15 at McKinney, 625 W Pool Road.

Trees available are on a first-come first-served basis.
