Juneteenth

The Black Cultural Council of Odessa (BCCO) has scheduled the 2019 Juneteenth Celebration Friday through Sunday and June 19 at Woodson Park (unless otherwise stated), 1020 E. Murphy St.

The annual “Celebration of Freedom” honors the day when Texas slaves finally learned of their emancipation.

Friday’s schedule of events include: 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., “Blues” by DJ Blue Boy and DJ Demetrius at the main stage; 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., 38th annual Danny R. Wright Basketball Tournament and the Boys & Girls High School and Youth Divisions Basketball Tournament at the Odessa College Sports Center, 201 W. University Blvd.; 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Annual Regina McKnight Juneteenth Volleyball Tournament at the Ector Fieldhouse; 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Annual Juneteenth Pageant at Blackshear Elementary Auditorium, 501 S. Dixie Blvd.; 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., Annual Welcome Program at Woodson Park main stage; 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., DC Trio + Band on the main stage; Youth Dance (south end of park).

West Texas Hold’em

Odessa Links has scheduled the seventh annual Links West Texas Hold’em tournament from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday at Dos Amigos, 4700 N. Golder Ave.

Odessa Links is an organization that addresses growing number of displaced and poverty-stricken families living in Odessa; this event allows Links to advance the cause of providing continuum of care services to those in need.

There will be dinner, drinks, Texas Hold’em Tournament, door prizes, silent auction and more.

Black Gold Bash

Oilfield Helping Hands has scheduled a Black Gold Bash, benefit concert for the OHH Permian Basin Chapter, featuring Wade Bowen and Stoney LaRue Friday at La Hacienda Event Center, 12610 State Highway 191, Midland.

VIP dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the doors open at 8 p.m.

The event will also include a live auction, networking opportunities and VIP after party with Adam Wakefield from The Voice.

Hot Summer Nights

Downtown Odessa Inc. and Odessa Arts have scheduled Hot Summer Nights Concert Series at 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, June 28, July 12, July 19, July 26, Aug. 2 and Aug. 9 at the Noel Heritage Plaza, 321 W. Fifth St.

The Permian Playhouse will present “Smokey Joe’s Café” for Friday.

In the event of inclement weather, shows will be moved to Odessa High School.

The event includes local food trucks, as well as children’s activities.

Bring the lawn chairs and blankets. Ice chests are allowed, but alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
