Popeyes robbery investigation

An arrest has been made in connection to a robbery that occurred late last night at a Popeyes in northeast Odessa, a press release by the Odessa Police Department said.

At approximately, 11:40 p.m., July 6, Odessa Police responded to 4350 Tanglewood Lane at Popeyes in reference to a robbery.

While officers were responding, dispatch advised that one of the employees had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect, later identified as Ashton Ward, being held down.

Investigation revealed that Ward walked into the business and demanded all of the money from the safe while threatening the employees with a knife.

While attempting to detain Ward, a 29-year-old male and 27-year-old female sustained non-life threatening injuries from the knife.

The 29-year-old male was transported to a local hospital with serious bodily injury.

Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Ward was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the ECLEC.
