Police: No foul play suspected in deadly fire

Odessa Police Department spokesperson Cpl. Steve LeSueur said over the phone on Monday afternoon there’s no foul play suspected in a fire that claimed the lives of two people early Sunday morning.

The reported house fire happened at 3:51 a.m. in the 1300 block of the East 44th Street, an OPD news release stated. Odessa Fire Rescue and OPD responded to the fire.

A man who identified himself as a family member was digging through the debris on Monday morning. The man declined to speak with the Odessa American.

LeSueur said OPD and OFR aren’t releasing the names of the two people that died, as they haven’t been positively identified. Both bodies were sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy.

The cause of the fire is still investigation, LeSueur said.
