One injured in rollover wreck

One man was taken by ambulance to Medical Center Hospital with non-serious injuries after driving into a telephone pole and rolling over his car in a residential neighborhood Thursday evening.

Odessa Police and Odessa Fire Rescue were called about a rollover around 5 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of East 14th Street.

Barbara Gomez, who lives on the street, said the driver of the car hit the telephone pole as he was turning onto 14th Street, traveling at a high rate of speed. The man then lost control of the vehicle, she said, and hit her son’s car before flipping onto its side in the middle of the street.

Gomez said there was also a brief power outage on her street after the car struck the telephone pole.

An Odessa Police Department officer supervising the scene said the man was not seriously injured, and there were no other injuries reported.

“This is the most excitement there’s been on 14th Street in a long time,” Gomez said.
