Odessan suing local hair salon

An Odessa man has filed a lawsuit against Smart Style Family Hair Salon claiming he was injured by a stylist using clippers two years ago.

According to the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Ector County District Court, Gerardo Castro Jr. went to the salon inside Walmart on John Ben Shepperd Parkway on Aug. 3, 2020 for a hair cut.

“Defendant Thanaporn Khajornpoo was in the process of cutting plaintiff’s hair when suddenly and without warning, defendant Thanaporn Khajornpoo broke the skin of plaintiff’s head with clippers that were not sanitized correctly,” the lawsuit stated.

Castro is suing Khajornpoo, her supervisor, Raquel O. Flores and the salon’s parent companies, Requis LLC and Regis Corp.

The lawsuit, which was filed by Castro’s attorney, Loncar Lyon Jenkins of Lubbock, states that because of the defendants’ gross negligence, Castro sustained “severe personal injuries to his head and his body in general.” The plaintiff’s attorney also alleges Castro has suffered “great physical and mental pain, suffering and anguish,” loss of earning capacity, physical disfigurement and physical impairment.

Castro is seeking in excess of $1 million.

Amy Walker, the general manager for Requis, said she wasn’t interested in making a comment. A message left for Regis were not immediately returned and a stylist at the salon said she was too busy to speak with a reporter or take a phone number.
