U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) issued a press release on Monday afternoon that detailed Schlemeyer Field in Odessa and Midland Airpark will receive $57,000 and $23,000, respectively, in coronavirus relief funds.

The press release also detailed that six airports in the Permian Basin have been awarded $124,000 of federal grants. This federal funding comes through the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2020.

Airports awarded funds are Midland Airpark ($23,000), Schlemeyer Field in Odessa ($57,000), Andrews County ($13,000), Lamesa Municipal ($13,000), Winkler County ($9,000) and Gaines County ($9,000).

“More and more Texans are getting vaccinated every day and we’ve seen an uptick in air travel as a result,” Cornyn stated in the press release. “I am glad to have helped deliver this funding that will improve the health and safety of transportation workers and travelers in the Midland-Odessa area.”
