Man reportedly drove into brick wall, choked passenger

An 18-year-old man ran into a brick wall with his pickup and then choked his female passengers to the point where she lost consciousness, an Odessa Police Department affidavit detailed.
Edward Mitchell was arrested and charged with assault with impeding breathing (family violence), a third-degree felony, and accident involving damage to a vehicle more than $200, a class B misdemeanor.
The assault happened at 2:23 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of 14th Street and Maple Avenue, the affidavit stated.
OPD officers saw several injuries to the 19-year-old woman including bleeding on her chin, several red scrapes and several red marks on her neck, the affidavit detailed.
The woman stated she and Mitchell were in white 2014 Chevrolet Silverado traveling south at the 1700 block of Maple Avenue when they started to argue. The woman reportedly attempted to exit the vehicle, but Mitchell ran off the road and struck a brick wall at 1750 Maple Ave.
Mitchell reportedly continued to drive away and slowed down in the 1500 block of Maple Avenue to let the woman exit the vehicle. The woman was sitting on the ground when Mitchell approached her and used his forearm to apply pressure to her throat, the affidavit detailed. The woman reportedly lost consciousness.
When the woman regained consciousness, Mitchell was attempting to drag her back into the vehicle, she stated. Two witnesses intervened when they saw Mitchell put the woman in a headlock and attempted to drag her into a vehicle, the affidavit stated.
Mitchell was arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. He has two bonds totaling $25,500 and was still in custody as of Friday afternoon, jail records show.
