Man charged with striking cousin with vehicle

A 47-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly struck his cousin with his suburban.

Kelvin Calicutt was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence), a second-degree felony.

The reported assault happened 10:21 p.m. July 19 in the 3400 block of Brazos Avenue, an Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit stated.

Officers reportedly made contact with the victim, identified as Darryl Stephens, who stated he was assaulted by his cousin, Calicutt.

Stephens detailed to officers that he and Calicutt were in an argument over a civil matter that led to a physical altercation, the affidavit stated. Stephens stated that Calicutt had assaulted him and struck him with a vehicle, which caused injuries.

The officers reportedly saw Stephens to be in severe pain and unable to stand on his feet. Stephens also had fresh injuries at his knees.

A witness, identified as Tony Smith, stated he saw Calicutt strike Stephens with a vehicle, the affidavit stated. The vehicle was reported as a possible white SUV or suburban. Investigation showed that Calicutt had a registered 2007 Chevrolet Suburban to him.

Investigation showed that Stephens and Calicutt were in a fight which led Calicutt to intentionally or knowingly assault Stephens with a motor vehicle which could have caused serious bodily injury or death, the affidavit detailed.

Calicutt was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Oct. 25, jail records show. He has one bond totaling $30,000 and was still in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.
