Man charged with assaulting, pointing gun at wife

A 42-year-old man allegedly kicked, bit, slapped and pointed a loaded handgun at his wife, an Ector County Sheriff’s Office affidavit detailed.
Arturo Chavez Jr. was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence), a second-degree felony.
The alleged assault happened between 11 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday at 11320 63rd St., in West Odessa, the affidavit stated.
Chavez reportedly assaulted his wife by kicking, biting, slapping, striking her with objects and dragging her body across the room by her hair, which caused her physical pain and bodily injury.
The wife stated that Chavez grabbed his firearm, a Smith and Wesson 40 caliber handgun, from their bedroom, the affidavit detailed. Chavez loaded the firearm and began pointing it at his wife, threatening to kill her and their three children.
Chavez was reportedly intoxicated at the time of his arrest. There were several empty beer bottles and a liquor bottle on the kitchen table, which the wife stated Chavez drank.
Chavez was charged, arrested and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. He had one bond totaling $15,000 and was still in custody as of Tuesday afternoon, jail records show.
