Man charged in connection with hit and run of pedestrian

The Odessa Police Department charged a man Monday after he reportedly hit a pedestrian with his car and fled the scene.

Police responded to the incident around 3:56 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of West 25th Street where they found 52-year-old David Richard lying on the ground, according to an OPD news release.

The release stated a Nissan Rogue, being driven by 30-year-old Craig Ashmore, was driving west and collided with a parked Chevrolet Malibu, which then struck Richards, who was standing nearby.

Richards was taken to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury and was listed as being in critical condition Tuesday, the release detailed.

Ashmore then fled the scene, making no attempts to render aid, the release stated, and was later found in his vehicle in the 2400 block of Kermit Highway.

Police charged Ashmore with failing to stop and render aid, a third-degree felony, and driving while license invalid, a class B misdemeanor.

Jail records show Ashmore was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Tuesday, and has two bonds totaling $25,500.
