This year’s Juneteenth celebration is back with a theme of “Our Future Matters” and is scheduled June 18-20.

The weekend’s events will start on June 18 with the Dallas Black Dance Theatre at the Ector Theatre from 7-9 p.m.

The events on June 19 will take place at Blackshear Auditorium, beginning with youth activities (including food, face painting, and a performance by Shout Cheerleading) that will take place from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Then from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. will be the Hometown Heroes “Living the Dream” with a presentation of scholarships and door prizes.

Following that will be the annual Juneteenth Pageant from 4-6 p.m.

June 20 will feature a Gospel Celebration with Rev. Eddie Jenkins of Good Street Baptist Church in Dallas from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Blackshear Auditorium.

Other events that will be going on during the weekend include the Regina McKnight Juneteenth Volleyball Tournament from June 18-20. All games will take place at Ector Fieldhouse.

The fourth annual 35 and older Legends Juneteenth Basketball Tournament is scheduled for 1 p.m. on June 20 with all games being played at Woodson Boys and Girls Club. For more information, call 432-978-8908.

The 40th annual Danny R. Wright Juneteenth Basketball Tournament will take place June 18-19 with all games taking place at Woodson Boys and Girls Club. More information on that tournament can be reached at 432-978-8908.

The Dancer/White Car Show Annual will take place 1-5 p.m. June 19 at Woodson Park in the east parking lot.
