I-20 passing lanes to be closed overnight

The passing lane closures at Interstate 20 and Crane Avenue will now remain in place overnight as construction of a crossover is completed, Texas Department of Transportation Spokesman Gene Powell said.

Construction of the crossover began Wednesday, and the closing passing lanes in the area of I-20 and Crane Avenue had been planned to reopen at night, but Powell said they will now remain closed overnight in order to improve safety by not exposing workers to traffic twice a day to set up barricades around and to save several hundred dollars a day in costs.

Powell said the passing lanes will be closed for the next three weeks as construction is completed before reopening.

A bridge rail upgrade at I-20 and East Loop 338 also began Thursday with perimeter signs being set, Powell said, and the contractor plans to close both eastbound and westbound driving lanes next Thursday, Jan. 11, and there will be various ramp and lane closures as the bridge rails are updated over the next 10 weeks.
