Special meeting set to determine ECHD board president

A special meeting will take place tonight after the Ector County Hospital District board was deadlocked June 6 on who would be board president.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. in the board room of Medical Center Hospital, 500 W. Fourth St.

The deadlock was between current board chair Mary Thompson and second-year board member Don Hallmark. With board member Richard Herrera absent, Thompson and Hallmark each received three votes, both times a vote took place June 6, and the vote was delayed until all seven members could be present to vote.

Bryn Dodd, who’s served since 2017, nominated Hallmark for board chair during the proceedings. Mary Lou Anderson, who’s been on since 2010, also voted for Hallmark.

Second-year board member Ben Quiroz voted for Thomson, as did David Dunn, who’s been on the board since 2006.

The board will also vote on the executive committee member tonight. Quiroz proposed during the June 6 meeting the executive committee member, who would get with the president and vice president for rare emergency meetings in times when the rest of the board couldn’t, should be whoever isn’t voted in as board president.
