The Junior League Jurassic Jungle sprayground will open to the public at noon Saturday.

The new sprayground is located on the University of Texas of the Permian Basin campus, 5700 E. 42nd St., near Highway 191 and Loop 338.

The Parks & Recreation Department and the Junior League of Odessa are hosting a grand opening celebration. There will be refreshments and giveaways, while supplies last. The fun continues through the evening and ends with a free showing of the movie, ‘Jurassic Park’ (PG).

The Junior League Jurassic Jungle is a dinosaur themed spray ground featuring water slides, dumping buckets, ground geysers and jets while shaded pavilions flank the spray ground. This is the second spray ground in the City of Odessa and is the largest in West Texas.

“The Junior League of Odessa is excited to be part of such a wonderful opportunity for the community,” said Andrea Goodson, president of the Junior League of Odessa. “The City of Odessa and Junior League have collaborated on many projects to improve our community and we look forward to working on many more projects that truly touch the heart of Odessa and make our community even better.”

The $2.5 million project was a joint venture between the City and the Junior League of Odessa. Construction began in 2015; a catastrophic hail storm in June 2017 delayed the sprayground opening a year.
