Affidavit: Former pastor sexually assaulted teen for years

An Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit detailed that a 44-year-old pastor sexually assaulted an 18-year-old girl for two years on several occasions.

Aaron Duane Shipman, 44, was charged with sexual assault (family violence), a second-degree felony.

The affidavit detailed a victim reported to OPD that she had been sexually assaulted on several occasions by Shipman. The victim stated that she is now 18 years old and that for the past two years Shipman has sexually assaulted her on several occasions.

The victim told police that Shipman had engaged in sexual intercourse with her on three occasions. The victim also detailed the last incident of sexual assault happened on Jan. 16.

The victim stated that all the abuse was done against her will, the affidavit detailed. A SANE exam was administered and it showed trauma.

Shipman was a former lead pastor at Bible Baptist Church, but after he was arrested and charged with sexual assault he was fired and banned from the church.

Shipman was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Thursday, jail records show. He has one bond totaling $60,000 and was still in custody as of Thursday afternoon.

Shipman was the head pastor at Bible Baptist Church. The church released a statement to the Odessa American’s media partners CBS7:

“As a ministry, we are deeply saddened and hurt to hear of the allegations brought against Aaron Shipman. Due to the nature of the allegations, we have terminated the position of Mr. Shipman at Bible Baptist Church effective immediately. He is banned indefinitely from the property and campuses of our church. We are, and will continue to be in full cooperation with the authorities and any state officials. We are asking our staff and members not to discuss this matter further while it is pending before the courts.”
