Fire destroys home in north Odessa

Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a residential fire Thursday morning that led to the total loss of a north Odessa home.

Firefighters responded to the call around 11 a.m. Thursday at 9202 Hawthorne Court.

City of Odessa Spokeswoman Andrea Goodson said the house was a total loss, but there was no one in the home at the time and no injuries were reported. The Odessa Police Department set up barricades around the street as firefighters spent about the next half-hour putting out the fire.

Smoke could be seen from several miles away and the back of the house had been ruined by the fire, with the windows blown out and parts of the roof melted or missing. One neighbor reported having to clean chunks of ash out of her backyard due to the fire.

An OFR spokesperson said just the owner of the home was displaced due to the fire.

Goodson said that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
